Pilots know what's around them, but it's all pretty much via long-distant scans and stuff, yeah. The only way they've gotten other charts is by picking them up from planets, and you could also print them out or something if you wanted to record where you've been. But yeah, not a whole lot of useful information about this stretch of space ahead of time. You guys are flying slightly blind. :'D
