SS Iskaulit & Establishments

THE SS ISKAULIT

the ship the iskaulit. it's a large vessel that looks rather like a cocoon in design.

The Iskaulit was added to the Drift Fleet's ranks during the summer of its first year, after a tragedy befell its original Nunnilis crew, and a related colony thanked the Fleet for attempting to save the crew by granting them possession of the emptied ship.

Whether because there is something wrong with the computers, or Atroma has somehow gotten its hands on it, it will only follow an autopilot sequence following the Marsiva's path.

While originally housing a self-sustaining merchant colony, the ship has since been gutted, allowing all manner of establishments to be built in its plentiful rooms and empty spaces. Any passenger is welcome to set up something for themselves--either publicly or privately--as the Iskaulit has more than enough room to spare.

THE SHIP

The Iskaulit, (meaning a certain rank of lesser female nobility in the Nunnilis' native tongue) is roughly ten times the size of a standard Drift Fleet ship, but still nowhere near the size of the Marsiva. Though it is built of standard metals and synthetic materials, it has a very organic design. Like the Marsiva, it is rather ovoid in appearance, but the surface has a distinctive rippled, grooved look.

Since this is a vessel originally built for on-board trading, the docking ports of the ship all merge into a big communal entry space in the interior. It's meant for the crews of many smaller ships to be able to park and interact together--and it is from this entryway that the massive, central hallways branch out and coil up and down the ship, with rows of rooms and spaces branching off of them.

ROOMS

The central halls of the Iskaulit wrap around in several giant coils in the ship, leaving a slight slope to most of the hall floors. The halls are built both wide and tall, probably meant to mimic the space of a market promenade, and the structure itself is plain and not very well lit. The attention is all meant to be focused on the "shops" that set up in the dozens of alcoves lining the halls.

Some of the alcoves are open-air and welcoming, without a wall of any kind dividing them them from hall. These rooms are probably meant to be shops enticing as many customers to them as possible. Other rooms are walled off with massive windows to display their interiors--while others are much more private, with solid walls and smaller doors leading in and out.

As for windows facing out to the grandeur of space, alcoves with exterior windows only make up about a third of the available rooms. However, even if a room doesn't have exterior windows, panels set in the the outer walls can be temporarily switched to "panorama" mode, which makes them appear transparent.

And if someone is looking for something a little less legitimate, there are air ducts and interior spaces of the ship that were not originally meant to be displayed to the public. You don't get windows, an easy entrance, or much space with these nooks and crannies, but you get much more privacy.

ESTABLISHMENTS

Any passenger (or group of passengers) may set up space for themselves. And don't worry if someone has already started something similar to an establishment that you want to start. There's nothing against having multiple clubs, clothing shops, gyms, etc. The more, the merrier! Just fill out the form below and reply here to the ESTABLISHMENTS comment, and it will be added to the Current Establishments post as soon as we're able.

In the event of an owner character leaving, possession of the establishment will pass to the other owners listed. If all listed owners drop, the establishment either passes on to a listed "inheritor," or goes up for grabs to the rest of the Fleet if no one is listed.

To edit or add to current information, including taking over an ownerless establishment, reply to the ESTABLISHMENTS comment with whatever it is that you want changed. If you want to alter displayed text, please include the entire block of writing along with the changes, so we can just copy and paste the whole thing over.

Description and information (200 word max.): It's more or less just a big pool of water for the moment, contained by enchanted ice. Over time the ice will be replaced by wood/glass to make a proper enclosure. It takes up most of the room. The bottom of the enclosure is covered in sand, dirt, and aquatic plants from the last planet visited. It's less an aquarium and more a place to swim in natural water, rather than the recycled ship stuff.
